Yankees lefty specialist Boone Logan is close to bringing his left handed talents to Coors Field.
According to an article in the Denver Post, former Yankees left-handed bullpen specialist Boone Logan, now a free agent, is close to signing with the Colorado Rockies. Troy Renck writes that the deal could be worth $16.5 million over the span of three years. Logan, who just recently underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone spur in his left elbow this October, still has to pass a physical before joining the Rockies bullpen at Coors Field.
The Rockies have been attempting to upgrade their bullpen this offseason, and Logan could provide the left-handed help they need. With Mariano Rivera retired and David Robertson all but set to take over the closer role, the Yankees bullpen is a definite question mark as the Winter Meetings end. Logan has spent the past four seasons pitching in the Bronx. While his work had been questionable at the start of his tenure in pinstripes, over the years he improved and became a somewhat reliable arm out of the bullpen. Coors Field is as much of a hitter's park as Yankee Stadium is, which could be another reason the Rockies are interested in him.
Logan's deal with the Rockies is not official yet, so the Yankees or another major league team could still try for him. The Yankees might not want to match the amount of years the Rockies are seemingly willing to give Logan, though. If they do not match the offer, the Yankees will have yet another puzzle to solve before the 2014 season begins.
