Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann has been named as the replacement for teammate Freddie Freeman on the National League All-Star roster, MLB announced on Sunday.

McCann will join closer Craig Kimbrel on the NL squad for his seventh career All-Star appearance. The only player in Braves history to earn All-Star nods in his first six full seasons, McCann missed out on the honor last year but returns for Tuesday's game in New York.

More Braves: Evan Gattis returns

The left-handed hitter spent some time on the disabled list to begin the season, but has swung the bat well since returning to the lineup; he entered Sunday hitting .291/.374/.536 with 12 homers and 32 RBI. The 2010 All-Star Game MVP has played particularly well the past few weeks, hitting .410 with four homers and eight multi-hit games since June 23.

Freeman won the NL Final Vote, but a jammed thumb will keep the first baseman out of the game. Freeman will travel to New York to participate in the festivities.
