Scott Feldman KO's season-high 7 in Astros second straight come-from-behind win
So glad I ended up having to scrap my "Michael Pineda Pitches Perfecto Against 'Stros" story. Pineda faced the minimum through three innings of work and seemed so unhittable in the early going that Jose Altuve– American League hits leader, Jose Altuve – laid down a sacrifice bunt in the top of the fourth to move Robbie Grossman from first to second after Bob reached on a single to right field. Grossman then came around to score on a Dexter Fowler double, and that was the only run the Astros would plate while Pineda was still on the mound.
Scott Feldman got into trouble early, allowing two baserunners in each of the first two frames but managed to wiggle out of both situations, stranding all four Yankees on the basepaths. Stephen Drew hit a solo shot in the fourth, and Ichiro scored on a perfectly laid Jacoby Ellsbury safety-squeeze, but a perfect third and a perfect sixth helped keep his pitch count down, and Feldman pitched into the 7th inning, striking out a season-high 7 Yankees and securing the W.
The Astros weren't able to get much going off of Pineda, but as soon as the Yankees bullpen entered the picture, they Gas-House Gorilla conga lined around the basepaths to the tune of five straight singles in the seventh, which, combined with a leadoff walk, plated four runs before the inning ended with back-to-back Chris Carter and Fowler strike outs.
It was all the offense the Astros would need as the Yankees were unable to capitalize on their opportunities late in the game, despite having baserunners in each of the last three innings. For the game, the Yankees left 10 men on base, which, between you and me, is no way to win a ballgame.
With tonight's win, the Astros have already secured victory in the season series; tomorrow the Astros will go for the sweep at Yankee Stadium and try to finish the year 5-1 against the Bronx Bombers.
